Brasil terminó con el sueño del voley argentino
La Selección masculina de voleibol buscará este miércoles seguir haciendo historia en los Juegos Olímpicos de Río de Janeiro 2016, cuando enfrente desde las 22.15 a Brasil en el estadio Maracanazinho, por los cuartos de final.
Los dirigidos por Julio Velasco se clasificaron primeros en el Grupo B luego de ganar cuatro partidos (Irán por 3-0, Rusia -campeón olímpico- por 3-1, Cuba por 3-0 y Egipto por 3-0) y perder solamente contra Polonia, actual campeón mundial. Brasil, en cambio, sufrió hasta el último encuentro para saber si entraba a cuartos, ya que en el camino cayó frente a Estados Unidos e Italia, ambos por 3-1, y tuvo que definir el cuarto de la zona con Francia, a quien eliminó tras vencerlo por 3-1 en la noche del lunes.
Los argentinos quedaron como los líderes del grupo, algo que nunca habían conseguido en sus seis participaciones anteriores -incluso cuando obtuvieron el bronce en Seúl 1988- pero enfrentarán al rival menos pensado, que en el estadio Maracanazinho a pleno y ya sin la presión de quedarse afuera en primera ronda, promete ser muy peligroso.
Brasil, oro en Barcelona 92 y Atenas 2004, plata en Beijing 2008 y Londres 2012, subcampeón del último Mundial de Polonia 2014, dirigido por Bernardo Rezende hace 15 años y protagonista de todos los torneos en la última década, es el claro favorito en los papeles ante los argentinos.
El DT Julio Velasco, que llegó a la Argentina en 2014 tras conducir a Irán, dirigió al equipo albiceleste que logró la medalla de oro en los Juegos Panamericanos Toronto 201, después de 20 años al ganarle la final a Brasil, pero los verdeamarelos presentaron un equipo alternativo (el seleccionado B) en esa ocasión.
Argentina, que siempre fue segundo en Sudamérica por el claro dominio de los brasileños, sorprendió a su clásico rival en tres Juegos (de seis): le ganó en Seúl 88 (en el partido por la medalla de bronce), Atlanta 96 y Sydney 2000 (en cuartos de final).
Antes, se jugarán los otros cruces de cuartos de final. A las 10, Canadá y Rusia definirán el rival de Brasil o Argentina en semifinales. Desde las 14, jugarán Polonia-Estados Unidos y a las 18 está programado Italia-Irán.
