El EI y sus antecesores realizaron 4.900 atentados
Los terroristas del Estado Islámico, sus antecesores y todos aquellos que le juraron lealtad en los últimos años llevaron a cabo 4.900 atentados entre 2002 y 2015, de acuerdo con un estudio realizado por la Universidad de Maryland.
El reporte “Study of Terrorism and Response to Terrorism” (START) indica que esos ataques dejaron un saldo de 33 mil muertos.
Esas cifras representan el 13% de los atentados cometidos en todo el mundo en ese período, así como el 26% del número de víctimas.
La lista comienza con el asesinato en 2002 en Jordania del diplomático norteamericano Laurence Foley por un grupo extremista dirigido por Abu Musab al Zarkaui, que según los autores del informe se desarrollaría hasta convertirse en 2013 en la estructura hoy conocida como Estado Islámico.
Además de los 33 mil muertos, esta amalgama de grupos e individuos aislados provocó unos 41 mil heridos y ha estado implicada en los secuestros de más de 11 mil personas.
Entre octubre de 2002 y abril de 2013, los dos grupos que precedieron el nacimiento de Al Qaeda en Irak y del Estado Islámico en Irak perpetraron sus ataques casi exclusivamente (95%) en territorio iraquí.
Desde mayo de 2013 hasta fines de ese mismo año, ISIS realizó una media de 46 ataques por mes. Esta cifra aumentó en 2014 hasta 106 ataques mensuales y se redujo levemente a 102 por mes en 2015.
El atentado más mortífero, según este estudio, tuvo lugar en junio de 2014 en Irak, cuando 1.600 reclutas del Ejército iraquí fueron secuestrados en Tikrit y a continuación casi todos fueron asesinados.
En el 80% de los casos, los ataques fueron realizados con explosivos y sólo el 16% con armas de fuego.
El reporte START también confeccionó la lista de 30 organizaciones de todo el mundo consideradas afiliadas a ISIS.
Estas cifras fueron obtenidas de la Base de Datos Global sobre Terrorismo (Global Terrorism Database, GTD), actualizada cotidianamente por START, que ha censado más de 150.000 incidentes de ese tipo en todo el mundo desde 1970.
