El repechaje al Mundial Qatar 2022 se jugará en un solo partido
Ante días de especulación, la FIFA confirmó este viernes que el repechaje al Mundial Qatar 2022 se jugará en un solo partido y será en una sede neutral. Esto se debería a que se busca reducir el proceso logístico que implican los viajes largos debido al contexto de pandemia que se vive actualmente.
Recordemos el formato del repechaje pasado eran partidos de ida y vuelta en las que cada selección tenía la oportunidad de jugar un partido como local y otro como visitante y el ganador obtenía su ticket al mundial. Actualmente Perú se ubica en zona de repechaje al estar en el quinto puesto de la Tabla de posiciones de Sudamérica, de no ascender o descender en las fechas del próximo año, la blanquirroja jugaría la repesca.
El sorteo de los partidos de repechaje o play-offs intercontinentales de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA Qatar 2022 se llevará a cabo en Zúrich, Suiza, el viernes 26 de noviembre de 2021.
Los partidos determinarán quién juega quién entre la AFC, Concacaf, CONMEBOL y la OFC en el certamen para los dos últimos lugares en el evento mundial insignia del fútbol se decidirá después del sorteo de los repechajes europeos. Ambos sorteos se transmitirán en vivo en FIFA.com para todos los territorios.
Tras el sorteo, se avecina lo que será una dramática conclusión de la competición preliminar de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA 2022 con los dos partidos de play-off intercontinentales que se disputarán en un solo partido los días 13 y 14 de junio de 2022.

Los play-offs estaban programados originalmente para marzo de 2022, pero se reprogramaron para junio de 2022 como resultado de la interrupción sin precedentes causada por la pandemia de COVID-19 en la programación de las eliminatorias de la Copa Mundial de la FIFA a nivel mundial.
Hace cuatro años, Australia y Perú aseguraron el pase a la Copa Mundial de la FIFA Rusia 2018 a través de los play-offs intercontinentales con victorias sobre Honduras y Nueva Zelanda, respectivamente.
