El TOP Motorcycle Museum de Hochgurgl, Austria, ha sido desbastado por las llamas en un enorme incendio.
2021 no empieza con buenas noticias, especialmente en lo que a historia automotriz se refiere. Un incendio ha arrasado uno de los museos más importantes de Europa, con un Porsche 959 y un Ferrari 250 incluidos, así como 230 motocicletas.
El incendio se extendió rápidamente por todo el edificio de madera, envolviendo toda la estructura en una bola de fuego casi incontrolable. Los esfuerzos para extinguir las llamas se vieron obstaculizados por las bajas temperaturas en los Alpes, donde se encuentra el museo. Los servicios de bomberos recurrieron a un suministro de agua para el equipo de fabricación de nieve de la zona de esquí local para aumenta la capacidad de extinción del fuego, aunque el daño causado fue enorme. Muy pocos vehículos se salvaron del incendio.

El museo, considerado una de las exposiciones de motocicletas históricas más grande de Europa, tiene una superficie de 3.000 metros cuadrados y una de las colecciones más importantes y de mayor valor del continente. Y la mayor parte ha sido pasto de las llamas. En su interior había una colección con más de 230 motocicletas históricas de más de 100 fabricantes diferentes. También había lugar para muchos coches raros y muy valiosos.
Entre los vehículos que probablemente se han perdido por el incendio se encuentra un Aston Martin DB5, un Alfa Romeo 8C de competición de la década de 1930, varios microcoches con motor de motocicleta, un Porsche 959 verde -conoce la historia del modelo- y un Ferrari 250 con carrocería de Pininfarina. Otros clásicos de culto también se dan por perdidos a causa del fuego.
Afortunadamente, no hay que lamentar heridos. Hasta el momento, se desconocen las causas del incendio. El museo Top Motorcycle fue inaugurado en 2016 por los hermanos Alban y Attila Scheiber, entusiasta y coleccionistas de motocicletas. Alban aseguraba en una entrevista a The Telegraph concedida el mismo año de la inauguración del museo: “A mi hermano y a mí siempre nos han gustado las motocicletas viejas. Cuando nuestra colección había aumentado a unas 20 o 30 [motos], pensamos en crear nuestro propio museo. Esta es nuestra forma de hacer ese sueño realidad”.
