Interceptaron a otro grupo de balseros cubanos
Un grupo de balseros cubanos fue interceptado este martes por la Guardia Costera de Estados Unidos, a unos tres kilómetros de Elliot Key, uno de los cayos más cercanos a la costa de Miami.
La rústica embarcación transportaba entre 12 y 15 disidentes, que no ofrecieron resistencia cuando fueron detenidos por las autoridades norteamericanas.
En imágenes transmitidas en directo por el canal 7 News, se observa a los balseros subiendo a una embarcación de la Guardia Costera después de que su bote fuera interceptado.
Los inmigrantes, entre ellos una mujer, se encontrarían en buen estado de salud.
En Estados Unidos rige para los cubanos la ley conocida como “pies secos, pies mojados”, que permite que se queden en el país todos aquellos que logran tocar tierra estadounidense, aunque lo hagan de forma ilegal, y pasado un año pueden solicitar el permiso de residencia permanente.
Sin embargo, aquellos que son interceptados antes de llegar a territorio norteamericano sí son repatriados por las autoridades.
Según la Guardia Costera, la incertidumbre sobre un posible cambio de la política migratoria de Estados Unidos hacia Cuba ha disparado la llegada de inmigrantes de la isla a este país.
La Oficina de Aduanas y Protección de Fronteras (CBP) reportó en julio pasado que de los menos de ocho mil inmigrantes cubanos que llegaron a al país durante el año fiscal 2011, se pasó a más de 44 mil en el actual ciclo, pese a que aún faltan más de dos meses para completarlo.
