La demoledora foto que muestra la soledad del poder
David Cameron dejó su cargo como primer ministro en julio pasado, luego del Brexit. Hoy, parece un inglés más.
David Cameron era, hasta el 13 de julio, uno de los jefes de estado más poderoso del mundo. Primer Ministro del Reino Unido, este político conservador no pudo impedir que la población británica decidiera abandonar la Unión Europea (UE) en la histórica votación de junio pasado. Ese fue el factor determinante para que decidiera renunciar a su puesto y dejar paso a Theresa May.
Desde que abandonó su vivienda oficial en Downing Street, poco se ha sabido del hombre que condujo los destinos del reino durante seis años. Eligió el perfil bajo. Tan bajo que una foto recorre el mundo mostrándolo en soledad, comiendo pescado y papas fritas con la mano en la banqueta de cemento de un aparcamiento.
A Cameron se con la mirada perdida, la boca llena de comida, descalzo y el pelo no tan acomodado como solía lucir en sus reuniones de gabinete o en sus largas exposiciones ante el Parlamento. Está de vacaciones en una playa en Cornwall, al sudoeste de Inglaterra. En la imagen parece un turista más, rodeado de dos jóvenes que parecen no saber quién está a su lado y por una mujer mayor, con las manos cruzadas. Según testigos, al lado del ex primer ministro estaría su esposa Samantha Sheffield.
A sus 49 años, Cameron decidió renunciar como primer ministro del Reino Unido luego de que los británicos votaran favorablemente a abandonar el bloque comercial y político europeo. El líder conservador había hecho campaña a favor de permanecer bajo el régimen continental, pero su postura no tuvo los resultados deseados en el electorado. El mismo día que se conocieron los resultados del referéndum, presentó su dimisión.
