Los que se anticipan al covid: el duro trabajo de hacer hisopados a domicilio
Su labor está más invisibilizada que la de los médicos que atienden en hospitales o sanatorios, pero cumplen un rol fundamental para atenuar la demanda en los efectores y evitar colapsos en las guardias. El detrás de escena de los que tienen que hacer testeos por coronavirus.
Desde que comenzó la pandemia del coronavirus, no tuvieron mucha presencia en los medios de comunicación. Sin embargo, su trabajo es fundamental para tratar de anticiparse al Covid-19. Son los que todos los días se levantan para testear a domicilio si algún paciente es o no positivo. No son médicos, pero trabajan al mismo ritmo. De algún modo, son la otra cara de la pandemia: los que se exponen al virus para anticiparlo.
Fiorella Pascuciello tiene 31 años, es de Concordia, Entre Ríos. Hace 13 años que vive en Rosario. Llegó a la ciudad para estudiar medicina. Empezó, pero al tiempo dejó esa carrera para formarse como técnica en Hemoterapia. Hace tres años y medio que trabaja como extraccionista en uno de los laboratorios más importantes de Rosario, ubicado en calle Balcarce 622. Todos los días se levanta para hisopar pacientes.
Desde el estallido
Cuando estalló la pandemia, en marzo, cuando todo el mundo tuvo que confinarse de manera estricta y solamente podía circular personal esencial, Fiorella y sus compañeros debieron organizarse para poder trabajar.
“Si bien en el laboratorio siempre llevamos a cabo extracciones de sangre -un promedio de 4 o 5 por día-, con la pandemia empezamos a tener dos rutas”, cuenta a Mirador.
“Entonces de las seis extraccionistas que trabajamos allí, una sola se quedaba en la sede sacando sangre, otra iba a realizar los hisopados a los domicilios y, así, sucesivamente nos íbamos rotando para evitar que nos acumulemos”. Desde ese momento, el trabajo duro comenzó y no dio respiro.
“La verdad que trabajo mucho”, admite Fiorella, quien además tiene otro empleo. “Me levanto a las 6 de la mañana y a las 7 ya estamos trabajando. En mi caso trabajo, jornada reducida es decir hasta las 11 de la mañana y después me voy a mi otro trabajo”. Ella era una de las que solía ir a sacar sangre a los domicilios antes de la pandemia, con lo cual se me incrementó mucho su labor con el coronavirus.
Se pone y se saca, se pone y se saca…
La rutina diaria para testear pacientes no es para nada sencillo. “Cuando llego al laboratorio, nos encontramos con las rutas del Covid ya preparadas que tenemos que hacer ese día. Cada una se divide en zonas: centro, norte, sur, este, oeste. Nos envían al celular -que la empresa nos da- el camino que tenemos que tomar mediante Google Maps con todo el recorrido y, también, ya tenemos cargado los datos personales de los pacientes, direcciones. Esto agiliza, porque la ficha médica que uno suele hacer en los domicilios ya la tenemos cargada”, explica.
Por cada paciente que ven, se tienen que vestir y descambiar repetidas veces con material descartable. “Nos ponemos la bata, cofia (gorrito de quirófano), barbijo, máscara y doble guante. Al salir de hacer el testeo al paciente, tiramos todo y ya tenemos preparado otro kit separado en bolsitas para volver a vestirnos para ir a otro domicilio”.
Este proceso lo repiten unas diez veces por día aproximadamente. “Lo hemos llegado a hacer unas 17 veces”, expresó. “Es muy desgastante. Lo más ágil es cuando llegamos a las casas y hacemos los hisopados, porque el procedimiento es rápido y ya tenemos toda la ficha médica cargada en el celular”, contó Fiorella.
Una vez que llegan al domicilio, tienen que corroborar todos los datos que tienen cargados: nombre, DNI, dirección, teléfono, sobre todo el mail, porque los resultados se envían por correo electrónico. También chequean si tienen que completar la ficha epidemiológica.
Realizan, a su vez, una serie de consultas sobre los motivos por los cuales tienen que testear al paciente y anotan todas sus respuestas. “Esto es importante, porque mientras más información tengamos mejor para poder cargarlo luego en el sistema del laboratorio”, explica. Acto siguiente, proceden a hacer el hisopado, luego se desinfectan, se descambian afuera, e inmediatamente van llamando al próximo paciente para avisarle que están en camino “y así sucesivamente”.
Al acecho
El hecho de tener que ir a testear todos los días a potenciales pacientes con coronavirus positivo, expone a los extraccionistas a un alto riesgo de contagio. En el caso de Fiorella, se contagió de manera asintomática.
“Me lo detectaron en el laboratorio. Esto fue en septiembre -cuando hubo un pico de casos- y varios compañeros se contagiaron. Entonces me hicieron un testeo de rutina y al otro día, cuando estaba en el otro trabajo, me llamaron para avisarme que me tenía que aislar porque había dado positivo por Covid-19”.
Si bien ella no transitó la enfermedad de manera problemática, si reconoce que muchos de sus compañeros no tuvieron tanta suerte. “Yo no tuve ningún síntoma, salvo varios días después que tuve pérdida del gusto y el olfato. Hace poquito me entregaron los resultados de los anticuerpos, porque ya pasó más de un mes y no tengo anticuerpos, aunque era de esperarse porque no tuve síntomas. Si bien yo no tuve mayores inconvenientes, el resto de mis compañeros la pasó muy mal”, contó.
Enfrentarse al Covid-19 no es algo que cualquier se anime hacer. El temor de infectarse está latente en muchos profesionales. Sin embargo, en el caso de ella no tiene miedo “porque tengo la suerte de vivir sola y no tengo contacto con mi familia desde febrero”.
“Estamos muy agotados todos. Lo que cansa mucho también es con las temperaturas, con el frío, con el calor. Ahora que se viene el verano va a ser duro. En el invierno, por ejemplo, porque hacía mucho frío y debajo de todo el equipamiento no me puedo abrigar mucho. Así que pasamos frío, pasamos lluvia, y ahora con el calor son días terribles porque la vestimenta es muy calurosa”, detalla.
Intolerancia
No todos los pacientes son iguales y no todos enfrentan la pandemia de la misma manera. Hay quienes tienen una actitud menos temerosa y más relajada, pero hay otros que son extremistas en sus cuidados y se vuelven paranoicos al pensar que se pueden contagiar.
Según la experiencia de Fiorella, “hay gente mayor que está muy temerosa y, a veces, hay un trato hostil en el domicilio”, señala y sigue: “Es que tienen miedo porque uno viene de afuera, viene de realizar otros testeos y tienen miedo de contagiarse. Por ejemplo, nos pasa mucho que nos llenan de cuestionamientos sobre si desinfectamos, sobre si es una zona limpia, si tenemos contacto con el Covid, es decir, una serie de preguntas que desgastan. Es una etapa del año donde hay intolerancia por cansancio”.
Las familias son un sostén importante para los profesionales que tienen que lidiar con el virus y los pacientes diariamente en el contexto pandémico. “Ellos ya están acostumbrados”, comenta Fiorella, porque al trabajar en hemoterapia y hacer transfusiones “es como que saben que estoy expuesta, no solamente al Covid, sino también a un montón de cosas como tuberculosis, VIH, entre otras con las que uno lidia en un sanatorio como en el que estuve haciendo guardias”.
“Por supuesto que mi mamá, cuando se enteró que di positivo, me llamaba todos los días, porque estaba asustada, porque estaba lejos y no me podía ayudar, pero bueno como toda madre”, afirmó.
Dos países distintos
Fiorella, al igual que muchos otros profesionales de la salud y médicos, tienen una mirada crítica sobre el comportamiento de la sociedad en cuanto a los cuidados que tienen que tener. Ellas y ellos son los que luego tienen que atender a potenciales pacientes con Covid positivo y todos los días detectan cómo muchas personas no respetan la enfermedad, al punto de que -según opina- “hay dos países” en la misma ciudad.
“Yo veo dos polos opuestos. Hay personas, por lo general mayores de edad, de un determinado sector social que está muy temerosa, muy paranoica al respecto que se cuida a un nivel extremo. Y después, haciendo los recorridos vemos prácticamente el comportamiento de toda la ciudad y alrededores, y detectamos que hay lugares que parecen otro país, como si no existiera el Covid, nadie con barbijo, todo el mundo sin respetar el distanciamiento social”.
Para Fiorella hay muchas personas que, lamentablemente, “no entendieron nada”, y agrega: “No sé si es por desinformación o porque culturalmente no entienden cómo lo vivimos los extraccionistas. No todos tenemos el mismo valor por la salud. Hay dos mundos paralelos”.
Ella destaca que hay muchas dudas respecto al coronavirus en la sociedad. Pese a que la pandemia llegó hace más de nueves meses, son muchos los que todavía no saben muy bien cómo manejar la situación y el temor se apodera de ellos.
“La gente que hisopamos siempre nos toma como si fuésemos sus médicos y nos llenan de preguntas sobre qué hacer si les da positivo, cuáles son los pasos a seguir después del testeo, entre otras”, comenta en base a su experiencia laboral. Por eso, Fiorella y sus compañeros siempre les dejan en claro que ellos no diagnostican, sino que “solamente realizamos el hisopado y entregamos los resultados”.
“El resto de las preguntas se las tienen que hacer a sus médicos o al 0800 de la Provincia, pero siempre están las dudas, permanentemente. Notamos que sigue habiendo dudas como si no se hubiese hablado nada al respecto”, cerró.
