Un maratonista argentino se acalambró y corrió de costado
Asoma en el Sambódromo Federico Bruno, el único maratonista argentino que aún no terminó la prueba.
Ya pasó más de media hora desde que el keniano Eliud Kipchoge, el flamante campeón olímpico, cruzó la meta. Su entrada llama la atención de todos. Corre encorvado, como si apenas pudiera moverse. Después frena, se agacha, como buscando fuerzas en algún lugar. Y lo intenta una vez más. Comienza a correr de costado, mirando a las tribunas de la pasarela que los corsos recorren cada año. Así, con un esfuerzo fuera de lo normal, Bruno completa el maratón de los Juegos de Río 2016 en 2h40m05s para ubicarse en la posición número 137 sobre los 140 que cruzaron la meta.
El maratonista argentino sufrió un calvario para completar la pruebas. Es que, según confesó luego, comenzó a sentir calambres en el kilómetros 30 y en el 35 ya casi no podía correr. “Me acalambré todo, hasta la boca. Mirá, se me está acalambrando la mano ahora”, contó Bruno en diálogo con TyC Sports, mientras la mano se le retorcía. “Corrí como pude. De costado por momentos, también todo encorvado. Parecía un viejo de 100 años. Bueno, en realidad no, un viejo de 100 años corre mejor”, reconoció.
Pero, ¿por qué continuar corriendo si el cuerpo dijo basta? “Preferí llegar cuando el cuerpo no quería. Para ser olímpico, tenía que terminar la prueba”, aseguró el maratonista, oriundo de Concordia, Entre Ríos, y de 23 años de edad. El apoyo fundamentalmente lo encontró dentro de la pista: el paraguayo Derlis Ayala lo acompañó durante todo el último tramo. Incluso, hasta frenó su marcha en más de una oportunidad para alentarlo a que no se detuviera.
